Heavy Duty Mechanic

We are a manufacturing facility that processes and packages frozen vegetables. We harvest peas and corn locally as well as package different frozen vegetables grown in different regions.
We are currently seeking a motivated individual to join our Agricultural Maintenance team at our Taber, AB field shop.

Hours of work:
- Harvest (July – Oct): 12 hours rotating days & nights (including some Weekends and Holidays)
- Non-Harvest (Nov – June): Monday – Thursday 4 10’s (straight Day’s)
About the Role:
- Performing preventative maintenance by following work orders to rebuild combines in the off-season
- Diagnosing, trouble shooting, and completing repairs to combines during harvest
- Maintaining harvesters, tractors, trailers, and trucks.
- Supervising harvest crews and monitoring daily maintenance/wash in the field
- Off season preventative maintenance/rebuilds on harvesters that may include sheet metal fabrication, transmissions, gear boxes, hydraulics, welding, electrical, and electronics
- Repairs broken down machines in the field
- Supervises harvest operators, responsible for the crew that is on shift and checking that daily maintenance/wash is done correctly
- Responsible for training and guiding the mechanics helper
- Ensures harvesters are adjusted and functioning properly to do the best job possible
- Ensures that paperwork is completed in a timely fashion
Qualifications:
- Registered in a ticketed trade or have a journeyman’s ticket in a relevant trade such as Heavy Equipment Technician, Agricultural Equipment Technician, Millwright, Automotive Mechanic, Welder, and etc.
- Must be able to communicate effectively
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
- Available to work on weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays during peak season
- Able to work 10-12 hour shifts
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, and use of ladders and stairs
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50lbs/23kg
Wages
- $40.21/hr
- Premiums for Sundays and Nights
