About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Estimator / Project Manager to oversee estimating, tendering, planning, and execution of structural steel, miscellaneous metals, steel erection, and millwrighting projects. This role is ideal for a detail‑driven professional with strong technical knowledge of steel fabrication and installation, combined with proven project leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and millwrighting scopes.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine material, labour, and equipment requirements.
- Perform quantity take‑offs, solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing, and develop complete bid packages.
- Identify project risks, constructability issues, and value‑engineering opportunities.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical cost records, and pricing templates.
Project Management
- Lead projects from award through close‑out, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality targets are met.
- Coordinate fabrication, erection, and millwrighting activities with internal teams and subcontractors.
- Develop project schedules, work plans, and installation sequencing.
- Manage RFIs, change orders, site instructions, and progress documentation.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress, verify measurements, and support field teams.
- Maintain strong client relationships and act as the primary point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in estimating and project management within steel fabrication, structural steel, or related construction sectors.
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes, erection methods, and millwrighting practices.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, fabrication details, and engineering specifications.
- Proficiency with estimating and project management software (e.g., Excel, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Post‑secondary education in engineering, construction management, or a related trade is an asset but not always required.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites across Ontario.
Preferred Assets
- Experience with heavy industrial or millwrighting projects.
- Familiarity with CWB standards and steel fabrication quality requirements.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification.
- Knowledge of Ontario Building Code and OHSA construction regulations.
