The Director of Professional Practice and Education provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for clinical practice standards across the organization. This role champions excellence in patient care through evidence-based practice, regulated health professional oversight, clinical education, and interprofessional collaboration.

The Director of Professional Practice and Education will establish and sustain a professional practice and collaborative learning environment that supports and advances evidence-based practice, regulatory standards and maximizes each profession’s ability to achieve the full potential of their role and facilitates continuous improvement through knowledge translation.

The Director, Professional Practice and Education is responsible for the promotion and enhancement of professional nursing and allied health practice throughout the organization, in alignment with the mission, vision, values and strategic direction of the hospital. In addition, the Director understands healthcare issues, trends, and technology; and advises the strategic planning, management, service delivery, organization, and evaluation of standards of professional practice. This job incumbent works closely with clinical leaders, educators, the strategy and innovation team, and frontline teams to foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional accountability, and safe, high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in a health profession, health administration or related field
• Master’s an asset; master’s in nursing preferred
• Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and the RNAO is preferred
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in clinical practice
• Evidence of progressive health care leadership experience with a demonstrated collaborative, team-based approach, a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years demonstrated experience in progressive leadership roles is preferred
• Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with the fast pace of organizational transition
• Self-directed, initiative-taking leader with ability to solve complex problems and lead innovative solutions for best care
• Working knowledge of Regulated Health Professions Act, Regulatory College Standards and related health care legislation
• Knowledge and expertise on a broad range of challenges regarding nursing (such as best practices; models of care; patient safety; process improvement and returning time to care)
• Excellent knowledge and application of Patient Family Centred Care principles and practices
• Evidence of team approach to negotiation and problem resolution
• Excellent analytical skills
• Evidence of knowledge exchange (presentations, publications) and new knowledge development (clinical evaluation).
• Visionary, strategic thinker and planner
• Proficiency in various software applications, specifically Microsoft Suites
• Exceptional interpersonal and public relations skills
• Excellent written/oral communication
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Ability to work flexible hours
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing continuing education and professional development
• Demonstrated reliable attendance record
